Creating Bold Boxers

Clyde Davenport returned to Australia from Europe in the late 1980s with a great idea. Boxer shorts, which were then the dominant trend in European men's underwear, had yet to reach the mainstream Australian men's market, which was still predominantly all about briefs.

He wanted to focus on creating a men's underwear line of boxers that were designed to allow men the freedom to express themselves with unique designs while still keeping style, fashionability, comfort and fit at the forefront. Clyde sensed two important things. Men, as much as women, enjoyed having a wide selection of underwear to choose from that also made them look great and feel great and boxer shorts were on the verge of exploding onto the wider global market.

Davenport launched in Australia in 1987 with a collection of signature knit boxers that were super soft and comfortable but also displayed a sense of wit, fun and style through their designs and Clyde was proved right - they were a huge hit with the guys!

Knits for Body Fit

This new fashion alternative to underwear, the Davenport knitted boxer in bright, graphic prints, remains the centrepiece of the brand which underwent a total relaunch in 2007 and emerged with a range of briefs and body fit shorts and trunks expanding the collections. The soft knit feel of Davenports make them too comfortable to take off and the width of shapes and styles in fashion forward designs turned these underwear basics into must-haves.
