Shoes Glorious Shoes
Some people are obsessed with their food, others their wine, and others their work. But shoes stand quite apart from the rest. Many women have a love of shoes that never tires. When financial hardship hits, footwear sales increase. A shoe purchase is rationalised as being practical and necessary, while the buzz of a great purchase remains throughout the life of the shoe. Of course the effect on men of a stunning heel or boot worn by a stunning lady is well documented. But why?
The Shoe in Folklore & On Screen
There is something about a shoe, or a pair of them, which seems to delight and enchant women. Perhaps this relates back to memories of traditional shoe fairy tales which they were told, or read, as little girls. Indeed, who could forget the magical story of Cinderella, whose life changed when she lost her glass shoe and a handsome prince came to find her. And of course, in the classic musical The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's ruby slippers had the power to protect her from a wicked witch.
More recently, women have come to relate to characters like Carrie Bradshaw, in the popular television series Sex and the City a true shoe fan, who lived and loved in her Jimmy Choos. Whatever inspires your personal passion for shoes, it is fair to say that when you treat your feet to some gorgeous footwear, you'll enjoy a glow of happiness from top to toe.
A World of Shoe Styles
There are dozens of different styles available, from functional everyday wear to the haute-couture women's shoe which is focused more on fashion than comfort. The shoe may take the form of a thong or sandal for beach and casual wear, or a ladies wedge heel for a summer look which can take a woman from day to evening style. Men's dress shoes for the office or evening wear are traditionally black, though many fashion styles and colour options are around for the dapper dresser. For winter, footwear which offers more protection such as a long or mid-rise boot is a good choice, and will help keep your legs cosy and warm. At home, you might prefer a lightweight slipper to wear when you are lounging around and relaxing.
Shoe Trends
Every season we see hot new footwear trends, as worn by celebrities and on the catwalk. While some of the more dramatic looks are less appealing (think Lady Gaga's controversial meat shoes) other shoe styles are easy to wear and will bring your look right up to date. Popular footwear looks which will always go down a treat include classic styles with embellishment such as beading or rhinestones, and floral or animal prints for a fun look. What you wear on your feet can say a lot about you, and is a great way to express your personality don't be afraid to add a unique touch to your work attire with a spectacular pair of shoes, even in the most formal business situations!
