Why Choose an Adhesive Bra?
Sometimes, even the most versatile bras are no match for trendy backless and strapless gowns. Necklines and the backs of dresses can plunge so low that bra bands are impossible to hide. An adhesive bra, also known as an invisible bra, is the best answer to this problem.
Adhesive Bras - An Alternative in Women's Lingerie
Made with firm polyester, nylon and spandex blends, every adhesive bra consists of two fitted cups. From there, adhesive bras have two main styles. The first style comes with two bands protruding from either side of the bust which end right underneath the underarm. The adhesive is attached to these bands through the use of glue strips or glue patches.
A second popular stick-on bra design excludes the extra bands. Instead, the bra consists of the two cups which may or may not be connected. Unconnected cups are best worn with extremely low-plunging necklines and dresses or tunics without sides. These cups are supported by extra material that sits underneath each breast. The adhesive solution is then applied to this material rather than fabric bands attached to the cups.
In the past, adhesive bras have been ignored because the chemically bonded adhesive wasn't strong enough to keep the lingerie in place. Sweat caused the glue to melt. The bra would then slide out of place or even fall off.
Today, every adhesive bra is engineered with medical-grade glue that won't dissipate due to sweat or heat underneath women's clothing. This acrylic glue has been tested to make sure it won't irritate your skin and can be safely removed. An adhesive bra will make your outfit look its best. These items typically come in shades to match white, black and nude underwear.
The Special Care of an Adhesive Strapless Bra
Before wearing an adhesive bra, check that your chest is clean and dry. Don't apply lotion to any skin the bra will be covering since creams and oils may dilute the glue. Use a powder-based deodorant if possible. Slip into the bra by putting on one cup at a time. If finding the best placement for your adhesive bra takes a while, there's no need for concern. This is normal and extra time should be allowed while getting dressed.
The length of time an adhesive bra can be worn depends on the manufacturer and design. Generally, you can can expect six hours or more of support from a top-of-the-line adhesive bra. An adhesive bra can be worn a limitless amount of times if taken care of properly. In many cases, the glue solution can be replaced once the amounts have diminished.
Remove the bra by slowly peeling the cups away from your bust beginning with the top edge. Gradually move along to the bottom edge of each cup. If wearing an adhesive bra with side bands, begin peeling at the outer edge and work your way in toward your bust. Always wash your adhesive bra according to directions and let it air dry.
